THe Pressure of a College Student(Erika.M)

When you are a college student, you can do what you want. So, you may enjoy every day. But there are not only enjoyable things but hard things. You have some pressures as a college student such a responsibility, money and future.
First of all, you should live by yourself. If you go to university of the outside the prefecture, you have to rent a room. Because it cost water service charges and heat costs, you must manage it by oneself. You also have to do housework; for example, you have to cook food for yourself and wash clothes. It is hard to combine housework with study. Moreover, you may miss your family and friends. If you live far away from your family, you cannot often meet them.
Second, you had better have a part-time job. You should not depend on your parents’ money because you can make money by yourself. By having a part-time job, you can learn the difficulty of earning money and the value of your parents. It is also because school fees are very high, you should earn money as much as possible. For example, you should use money that you earned when you buy clothes and foods and so on.
Finally, you must decide your future by yourself. You are not a child, so you have a responsibility for the future. When you graduate from college, you have to live by yourself. Therefore, you should search for the jobs that you are interested in. It is difficult to decide your future, so you had better experience many things. For example, it is good to interview adults about their jobs.
In conclusion, there are pressures such a subsistence, money and future. If you can overcome them, you will become a fine person. Also you will able to have confidence in yourself. Although college students are very busy, they can develop as persons.

The pressure of being a student (Yui S.)

About ten months have passed since I became a college student. I’ve become accustomed to leading a college student’s life, but I feel some pressures at the same time. I think most of the students have the pressure and not all students have the same problems. The types of pressure differ from person to person; for instance, there are economic, academic, social, and emotional pressures. Academic pressure is the most serious for me. The pressure is composed of three main points, computerization, studying a language and getting grades.

Computerization is one of the differences between high school and university. In high school, teachers teach by using art blackboard, on the other hand, in university the professors conduct a class by using computer or illustrating a lecture with slides. College students are required to master computer skills; for example, they must take a class to learn how to use a computer easily. Moreover, some classes make students to hand in their homework by using the computer. It makes them feel uncomfortable because they are not used to using computer system such as Excel and Word. Although acquiring computer skills is necessary both in a university and in a company, computerization is tough work for students.

Studying language is another academic pressure. Though college students have been studying English since they were a junior high school student, in university, they have to learn another language besides English, such as Chinese, Korean, French or Germany. As for me, I like leaning both English and another foreign languages, so I don’t think it is a pressure. However, not all students think so. It might be stressful for some of the students to learn another language at the same time because they have not acquired English skill yet, nor do they have confidence in speaking it. Students who don’t like studying even English might feel more pressure.

Getting grades also make students stressful. Whether students can get grades or not depends on their participation in their classes. In the university, students are evaluated not only through examination but also how many grades they get; therefore, it is more difficult for them to move up to the next year. If they are absent from the classes too often and fail to get a credit, they have to retake the class for another year.

To sum up, college students feel more stress than high school students, for studying at university means that they have to acquire a variety of skills. Though they might be sometimes exhausted with the pressure, it is necessary for them to get over the pressure by themselves..

The Pressures of Being a College Student (Risa S)

Today, many people are under stress in their life. According to the data on the Internet, a quarter of people feel more or less stress. They feel pressures of human relationship at works and homes the most. It is also backed up by the data. In the same way, I feel the pressures of being a college student. As a college student, I experience social, economic and academic pressures.
There are some causes of social pressures. First, I encountered new things in college life. I met new friends and teachers, and I started new life in the dormitory. As a result, I am sometimes troubled about human relationships. Second, law of Japan defines people who are over 20 years old as adults. I am 19 years old, therefore, my ability is limited. I can choose actions by myself and can drive a car. On the other hand, I cannot go to vote and cannot drink alcohol. I’m not enough adult. I think 19 years old people are between adult and adolescent. In short, surroundings in society cause me pressures. My position in society causes pressure, too.
The next causes of pressures are economic pressures. First of all, I have cooked my meals since I entered the university. I live in the dormitory, so I have to buy daily necessities by myself. It is difficult for me to manage money because I relied on my parents before. Next, it costs to get on with people. For instance, I have to pay for my meal when I go to eat out. When I take a trip with my friends, the fare to the destination costs a good deal. In brief, I am under the economic pressures to manage money. I think I do a part-time job if I need.
The third causes of pressures are academic pressures. To begin with, I have a lot of work to do. Teachers give me many assignments. Time is not enough to do them, so I have to cut down on sleep in order to study. Secondly, I want to receive all credits. Therefore, I must pass all tests and not miss classes as much as possible. Furthermore, if I can get a high score at TOEFL or TOEIC tests, I can study abroad. I want to study abroad if I possible. In summary, I think I need to study harder and harder than ever.
In conclusion, I have many pressures in the college. They are inseparable in my life.  However, I enjoy every day. Going outside, talking with my friends and good sleeping are ways of relaxation for me. Hence, I don’t have to restrain these pressures. I would like to manage pressures in the future.
